Your outdoor deck probably started out as the most basic of deck ideas: An ordinary slab put together by attaching deck boards to one another, with no amenities to invite human occupancy. But, hey, this is how all decks started out and you may be excused for having nothing on this new deck to persuade anyone to spend any leisure time there.
But as time goes by, you know you want to make that deck more habitable. No sense in taking time to construct the darn thing just to have it sit there and be naked!

- Get the (deck) furniture out. Some comfortable outdoor furniture will be needed for guests to sit on. Wicker, iron, resin… are all great outdoor furniture material. Create furniture groupings to encourage interesting conversation.
- Get your outdoor kitchen happening. A barbecue grill, an outdoor cooler for the inevitable cool-down drinks, some outdoor cutlery and plates should be on hand for ”al fresco dining’” at its best.

- Privacy from the neighbors. If you don’t yet have a privacy fence, you can always just use large bedsheets to hang from the sides of your deck, for that extra measure of privacy.

With a bit of imagination and a moderate amount of elbow grease, you can turn that deck into an interesting feature of your home.
